Since taking office, Daneek has provided over $200,000 annually in funding to support local senior programming in the district. Whether it's assisting with the cost to provide an annual field trip for the tenants at the Conlon Lihfe Towers, supporting computer classes at the Alpha Phi Alpha Senior Center, or providing transportation and case management services at the SNAP Eastern Queens Center, Daneek has and will continue to prioritize the needs of our district's "seasoned citizens"!
Daneek has also been a vocal proponent of expanded eligibility for the SCRIE and DRIE programs, improvements to Access-A-Ride services, increased support for home-sharing and respite services, and a substantial increase in the operating budget of the Department for the Aging.
Daneek has sponsored or co-sponsored the following senior-friendly legislation:
Intro 1574: Legislation to establish a retirement savings program for private sector employees
Intro 1024/ Local Law 010: Requires certain agencies to coordinate with the Department of Finance to distribute information on SCRIE/DRIE to persons sixty-two years of age and older
Intro 974: Requires the Department of Health to create and publish a health facilities map
Res 742: This would allow legal permanent residents to serve on juries
